Stop & Reflect
By Tim Portwine
Most mornings my day starts by waking up, having breakfast, a shower, getting changed then a short drive to work. It's during this time everything seems to be fast paced and I don't have much time to think about things that are relevant other then getting to work and starting my shift. Can you also relate to this??
On route to work I daily come across a set of traffic lights.
Most of the time this is where my route comes to a brief stop.
I don't know if you have ever noticed this or if it's just me but when I come to that red light and need to stop my mind starts to reflect on three things God, Family and Life.
I find this doesn't only happen on route to work but in everyday life.
When demands at work are high, when things in life are full on and we feel like we don't have any time to spare we seem to think automatically on the situation at hand without stopping to reflect on God and His leading.
What does this tell us??
Sometimes we are so busy we forget to take time out to spend time with God.
I cannot tell you how many times I have been caught up in this scenario.
I open my Bible app and it tells me I have missed 1, 2 or even 3 days of my reading plan. How much time did I spend with Jesus over those 3 days?? How much time did I spend talking to Jesus, praying to Jesus and seeking His guidance and direction for those days??
I can say it was very little if any. Ouch! That truly hurts.
One thing I felt the Lord show me is God doesn't want us to be busy with life He wants us to be fruitful in life.
I think there is a huge difference. Busy makes our schedule full and chaotic but fruitful comes by us opening ourselves up to God and asking him to have His way in our everyday activities.
I believe strongly if we all could take time each day to stop, reflect, pray and spend quality time with God whilst laying aside our busy schedule our lives would be more fruitful, peaceful and God honouring.
God knows everything before you ask Him, God knows everything you are going through, God even knows what you are going to pray before you speak the words but the powerful thing about prayer is it's our way of making a choice to invite God into our life and situations.
My challenge today is let's make time out of our schedules to spend time with God. Invite Him into your day today.
I promise you this. You won't regret it.
